One of the things Chris and I learned in our decade at CodeVA – to innovate you you need a team. We were lucky to partner with several state agencies, including our Department of Public Education and Council of Higher Education. We also branched out to the Economic Development Teams, Virginia’s Tourism Commission and even the Virginia Lottery.
This video Virginia – The Digital Dominion was created collaboratively Virginia’s Tourism Commission. In it we worked to capture Virginia’s unique place as a Computer Science Hub, exploring how CS drives Virginia’s economy. This is an example of how collaborations for CS education can engage government agencies besides the department of education to tell the story of computer science.
These non traditional partnerships can open up new opportunities to share your story and support your mission. We leveraged this video to attract funders, excite school leaders and engage policy makers.
In other partnerships we invited the Virginia Lottery to present at our training events about how they needs computer science and teachers got Lotto Scratches, some of our best swag ever.
